It is a mystery what happens to poop in air-planes or flights. Many may think it goes straight down in the air. Well, most of us Indians do. Because of our travel history in trains, we assume differently. But, the treatment to our poop is actually quite different in flights.
Air-planes use a very advance technology for everything. Even in the aspects of sanitation. To keep things fine and confirm, the toilets have separate storage tanks. Yes, the poop we shoot in our commodes in planes does not fall on someone’s head down below.
Now that is a relief. But, what is the management system of poop in air-planes?
All that goes down the drain of the toilets goes into a huge storage tank. The capacity of this storage tank is just enormous. It can store up to 1 billion tons. But this is not all in one tank. There are many small storage panels which connect further together and store 20 gallons each.
Not even all the passengers together can bring out such huge amounts. So, does the poop that goes down stay till the storage tanks are full? Not that either. As soon as the plane lands down, the sanitation department cleans or changes the smaller tanks.
This way, the odor goes away as well as hygiene is maintained at good levels. The suction pumps drop the waste into an Eco-friendly dump. The process smells as tacky as it looks.
